Island in the Volcano Lake, Rotorua - Bird Santuary

We took a boat ride out on the largest lake to have a guided tour of a beautiful bird sanctuary. Here we learned of the early natives, tasted some delicious forest foods, and found a super nice natural spring to warm our frozen toes!

We hiked the area which was the big attraction before the explosion - the water is quite warm, but it has a low pH so it is not for swimming. Alex caught a few zzzz's before making the hike to the bottom. Ferns are everywhere!
